On a Clear Winter Night - This limited palette nocturne, purely invented, gave me an allowance of freedom to explore options. Working with the idea of what a painting might need is often more enjoyable than competing to only capture reality.

SOLD Light Cut Orange -
Monday, May 17, 2010
SOLD - Tea and Stripes - This piece was born from more of a color standpoint than anything else. Focusing on something in the process of painting and making it the priority allows for the other issues to be open and more malleable.

Curled In - The simplest of subjects, can often create huge obstacles to confront. Sometimes the simple is not so easy.

Box and Slice - I have been working on and thinking about paint application and surface quality a lot. trying different mediums, whites and grounds.

SOLD- White Rose - This piece was a bigger fight than usual. I almost gave up on it several times. Sometimes the struggle pays off, sometimes it doesn't. I am glad I fought through it in the end.

SOLD- Medicine Bottle - I enjoyed the challenge that the brown glass medicine bottle presented to me in this piece.

Yellow and Blue - I had an immediate attraction for this and found painting it a pleasure.

Lemon Slice - In todays painting I was able to use a very limited palette and make an impact through other means.

Pill Box - Simple things can be great subjects. The subtle relationships of color and value where white on white occurs is always interesting to paint.
Dan Robinson began to travel the road of a painter, a journey he set as he received his education at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena CA. Beginning in the fall of 2009 this blog was started with the idea of continuing to pursue the craft of painting by completing small pieces quickly, allowing for experimentation and discovery within the visual language of paint. Dan has been an invited artist in such shows as, Plein Air Painters of America; Dixon Country; The American Art in Miniature exhibit at The Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, OK; The Phippen Museum in Prescott, AZ and The Albuquerque Museum in Albuquerque, NM. Dan has been the recipient of numerous awards including The John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship, the Grumbacher Gold Medallion and an Award of Merit from The Oil Painters of America.
