SOLD - Black Kettle - A new piece, painted from a group of drawings done a couple of years ago.

On a Clear Winter Night - This limited palette nocturne, purely invented, gave me an allowance of freedom to explore options. Working with the idea of what a painting might need is often more enjoyable than competing to only capture reality.

Turnip - This piece was difficult to find but once established the subtle harmony was worth the search.

Sunset Fuse - In the desert southwest one of the most exciting times each day is it's last light. The normally harsh environment is transformed, a revealed softness, welcomed relief from another day's heat.

SOLD - Shadow's Bloom
- The revealed pattern and featured distant hill, as the somewhat mundane light vacated the scene, was just as the bloom of another season. Something to behold.

Color Workshop - Edmond, Oklahoma

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Apple Texture - This was an exploration I did some time ago. I have recently framed it for a friend in Oklahoma who owns the piece now. After seeing it new again I am quite pleased with the textural applications.

Out of the Shadow - Such a simple thing again, all owing to the balance.

Monday, May 17, 2010

SOLD - Tea and Stripes - This piece was born from more of a color standpoint than anything else. Focusing on something in the process of painting and making it the priority allows for the other issues to be open and more malleable.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

A Note of Spring - Searching within a subject and finding what is to be translated is a difficult part of the process. Once I leave the subject itself and see it through the issues of painting, then use those on my terms, all possibilities begin to open.

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Curled In - The simplest of subjects, can often create huge obstacles to confront. Sometimes the simple is not so easy.

Friday, April 23, 2010

Summer Sky - This piece was done a while ago and when I saw it I began looking forward to the events to come in the summer season.

Monday, April 19, 2010

Late Shadows - The effect of light on these rocks at waters edge immediately became my subject for this piece.

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Box and Slice - I have been working on and thinking about paint application and surface quality a lot. trying different mediums, whites and grounds.

Monday, April 5, 2010

Laguna Rocks - I painted this on a heavier gauge linen and really enjoyed the surface quality that it offered.

Friday, April 2, 2010

Box and Apples - This is an older piece that was a nice surprise to find in my files.

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Passenger's of the Night - The scale in this painting was one of my priorities in it's planning. A combination of study from nature and my invented desire's allowed me to paint this piece.

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Winter - A subtle and limited palette helped me achieve this winter grey.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

SOLD - White Rose - This piece was a bigger fight than usual. I almost gave up on it several times. Sometimes the struggle pays off, sometimes it doesn't. I am glad I fought through it in the end.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

SOLD - Medicine Bottle - I enjoyed the challenge that the brown glass medicine bottle presented to me in this piece.

Monday, March 8, 2010

My next class will focus on landscape painting, working both on location and a day in the studio working from one of our location studies.

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Yellow and Blue - I had an immediate attraction for this and found painting it a pleasure.

Saturday, February 20, 2010

Apple - Here I liked the shapes that both surrounded the apple and pointed you to it.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Green Slices - The close relationship of value, color and temperature in the slices as compared to the "white" cloth became the challenge to solve in this one.

Sunday, January 31, 2010

At the Close - A dusk painting based on movement.

Friday, January 15, 2010

Evening Reflected - In this piece that is mostly an exercise in stretching all of the summer green that you see in a scene, the reflected sky was a great contrast to play off of.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Up Lit Apple - This is a recent commission that I was asked to do based on an earlier piece.
